Plot

Directed by Teboho Mahlatsi, White City, Black Lives chronicles several residents of White City, a neighborhood in Soweto, South Africa, that has been put under the microscope after what is widely believed to be a misrepresentation from mainstream media. Among the White City natives are Lindiwe, a single mother; Prince, an ex-convict turned opera lover; and Ntombi, who is coping with her own life's current state of stagnancy. Whatever their aspirations, each person has to deal with a backdrop of poverty, crime, and drugs that simply hasn't been acknowledged by the press. Armed with video cameras, the residents offer a scathing look at black urban life in South Africa. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide
