Natalie Imbruglia was an instant charm with her 1998 debut single, Torn, and expectations for a follow-up to Left of the Middle were practically immediate. Imbruglia wasn't quick to rush, however. Instead of investing in the quick pop sound she made popular on her first album, she took her time in redefining herself as a songwriter with substance. Four years after becoming an international star, Imbruglia emerged with her finest work to date with White Lilies Island. It's a record that breathes something pure, and one can sense that she has complete control, lyrically and musically. Her spiritual and emotional connection remains the same, and White Lilies Island is her reflection of the reinvention. "Wrong Impression" is sweet with its twangy guitar riffs, and Imbruglia's softness is deceiving. She's quite dark, and challenges typical notions of love and acceptance. "Beauty on the Fire" and the heavy romance of "Do You Love" continue the fight. "That Day" and "Sunlight" are strikingly edgy, and Imbruglia's simplicity and energy are intoxicating. She couldn't have rushed this album. Imbruglia has made a brilliant pop record -- contemporary, yet timeless. White Lilies Island is the second album by Natalie Imbruglia. It was released in Europe and Australia in late 2001 and in the United States on March 5, 2002. The name of this album comes from the location of Imbruglia's home in Windsor.[1]

Early copies of the UK release had copy protection software by Cactus Data Shield that was supposed to prevent users from ripping the album's tracks to their computer. The disc also contained poor quality versions of the tracks that were hidden on the disc that would play in place of the normal tracks when the album was played on a PC. The copy protection also caused conflicts in some other CD playing devices from skipping audio and tracks to rendering the entire album unplayable as well as a host of other problems.[2]

Although Imbruglia enjoyed her successful career after releasing Left of the Middle in late 90's, White Lilies Island was the big failure in sales, and received many critics, yet she managed to release three singles including her another smash hit Wrong Impression which was played worldwide [3].

Despite missing the UK top 10 the album sold over 150,000 copies. The US release saw limited success but again sales of around 200,000 have been reported. Around the world White Lillies Island has sold around 1 million copies.
