WHITEbox

A PC made from commonly available parts. White box marketing refers to the many small companies that assemble and sell Windows PCs (and occasionally Linux PCs) under their own brand name. The "white" refers to the packing carton of the computer case, which has often been white, but can be any color. More importantly, the carton and the case itself are devoid of the original manufacturer's logos so that resellers can add their own.

A Declining White Box Market

Due to ever increasing laptop computer sales, the white box market, which is primarily desktop computers, is in decline. The white box companies take advantage of surplus motherboards, disks and other parts they are able to mix and match quite easily for desktop computers. However, parts for laptop computers are not as interchangeable, and the "white book" market (white box laptops) has never been as easy to support for the small white box vendor. It is expected that both the white box and white book markets will continue to weaken. See OEM. See also white box testing.

WHITEbox is a box set re-issue of the White1 and White2 albums by Sunn O))) on vinyl, limited to 450 copies. It contains three white vinyl records and a picture disc with photos of Attila Csihar and both versions of DECAY. In addition to being one of the most sought after pieces in the extensive Sunn O))) catalog, with sealed copies going for just over $600.00 on eBay, the WHITEbox was sold in two different forms. The initial release of the WHITEbox was limited to 450 copies, all of which sold out over a matter of a few days. The second and most rare of the WHITEbox sets is the "tour" edition which was limited to 100 copies and was only sold at live Sunn O))) performances. The tour edition of the WHITEbox has a different picture on the front of the box, which like the first edition is signed and numbered by the photographer. Also included, in addition to the four White records, is Candlewolf of the Golden Chalice on red vinyl and the second edition of Live White on CD.
