Whitefield is a suburb of Bangalore in the state of Karnataka, India, is a planned development near Bengaluru that was developed with the intention of attracting major global technology players. It is renowned for Sathya Sai Baba's ashram called Brindavan and as a haven for a number of multinational information technology companies.
Until the late 1980s, Whitefield was a small village which was a retirement colony for Anglo-Indians. It has since become a major hub for the Indian technology industry. The Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) at Whitefield of one of the country's first information technology parks - International Tech Park, Bangalore (ITPB) which houses offices of many IT and ITES companies. The EPIP zone also has offices of other IT and R&D giants like TCS, Accenture, Symbian (Symbian India Ltd.), GE (John F. Welch Technology Center), Wipro, GE Medical Systems, iGate Global Solutions, Sapient, Manhattan Associates, SAP Labs, Perot Systems, Dell, IBM, Intel, United Telecoms and Oracle. An Intel Xeon processor code named Whitefield was being developed (but was scrapped later) in Intel's ITPB campus (Intel has since moved its campus from ITPB).
Now Whitefield is officially part of Bangalore city with it being included into BBMP(Bruhat Bengalure Mahanagara Palike) Whitefield also has major medical facilities such as the Satya Sai Baba Hospital which specializes in cardiovascular and neurological surgeries.
St.Joseph's Convent School, the oldest school in the vicinity, still retains its old-world charm; and the Our Lady of Lourdes Church on the other side of the hill still paints a pretty picture in an otherwise rampantly-urbanizing suburb. The Stations of the Cross statues on the Church Hill brings in visitors from across the city during the Holy Week. The crucifix on the top of the hill silently witnesses the changing landscape.

Infrastructure
Whitefield started seeing a boom in Residential Construction since the latter half of 1990s and especially during 2002 onwards. Palm Meadows from Adarsha and Christella were one of the very first to come in. Later on many more apartment complexes have come into the Whitefield Area, and specially in Brookfield Road. Residential Buildings such as Adarsh, Gopalan, Sriram Spurthi, Sriram other properties, Lotus Krest, Vars Rosemont, Brigade Harmony, Mahaveer Tuscan, Mahaveer Regal, Mahaveer Dazzle, Sumadhura Sangrilla, are a few of them. Also on the Whitefield Main road, premium residential complexes like Chaitanya Armadale, Vaswani Pinnacle, Ideb Tivoli, Sobha Rose have come up. Also a recent attraction on this road is Forum Value Mall.

A new Taj Group Hotel and few budget hotels like Ginger, Savanna, Radha Hometel and Fortune are already operational. Zuri is another new hotel in the locality. Radisson and Chalukya group 5 stars are ready for launch in few months. Meanwhile a business hotel has come up recently called at the entrance of Whitefield on Varthur Road, "The Belair" with 62 rooms and a Restaurant "The Palm Springs" serving International Cuisine. Fine dine restaurants like Civet, @Rotika, Herbs & Spices, Maple, Mark Boulevard, are in the vicinity. You also find more restaurants like Nandhini, Bhagini,Beijing Bites, Chung Wah etc There are couple of Coffee shops (Coffee day) in the neighborhood.
