Dutton Vocalion presents a sampler of records made by British dance band leader Jack Hylton for the HMV label between August 28, 1935 and March 6, 1940. During this period, Hylton emulated successful U.S. big bands by decorating nearly every recording with sweet pop vocals. Such heavy concentration places Why Did She Fall for the Leader of the Band? among the less-than-essential Jack Hylton reissue compilations. Even if those who are susceptible to Hylton's combination of polish and swing will enjoy "Do the Runaround" and "Lovely Liza Lee," only the devoutly committed will fully appreciate the opportunity to hear June Malo sing the lyrics to "Chopsticks." ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide
