Wilhelmine, a short prose narrative (Ein prosaisch-komisches Gedicht) by M. A. von Thümmel, published in 1764 and consisting of six cantos (Gesänge). The first edition bore the alternative title oder der vermählte Pedant. It tells of a country girl who has been taken away and educated at court. The village pastor loves her and takes the opportunity, with the assistance of wine, to propose to her when she visits the village, and she accepts him. She is given leave by the court, a grand wedding takes place with many noble guests, and the marriage is consummated.
The slender story is told with gentle irony in poetic prose. The rococo impression is heightened by delicate erotic detail. An edition by A. Anger appeared in 1964.
