Biography

Art director William Craig Smith started out working on an experimental Philadelphia television station in the late '30s. Following wartime military service, he went back to Philly. In 1949, he was hired as an art director by NBC in New York. There he worked on a number of shows, including Armstrong Circle Theater, Gilligan's Island, The Twilight Zone, and Gunsmoke. Smith has also worked on a wide variety of feature films. Smith shared an Oscar with Tim Hutchinson and Rodger Maus for Victor/Victoria (1982). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
