William Ellis Green, who signs his cartoons WEG, has drawn the Australian Football League premiers posters since 1954. He also draws posters for many other sports. He worked as a political cartoonist for the Melbourne Herald, (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia), for forty years, starting in 1946. He was awarded the Order of Australian Medal (OAM) for services to cartooning and illustrating the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.

Burglar caught by cartoon

On 14 January 2005, the 82 year old Green confronted a burglar running through his back yard in Heathmont, Victoria. After confronting the man, WEG called the police then proceeded to take pens to paper and produce a caricature. His art was immediately recognisable to the local police. The offender was soon apprehended at local shops, and the cartoon clearly showed the man.[1]
