William Fitzpatrick (b. 1949), American violinist and conductor, is currently the
director of ChamberArtsFest, an annual international chamber music festival. From 1978-1983 he was first violinist of the
New York String Quartet, ensemble-in-residence at the University of California, Irvine and the Aspen Music Festival.
He was a student of Dorothy Delay at the Juilliard School and Stephen Clapp at Vanderbilt University's Blair
School of Music. While at Juilliard he also studied with and served as teaching assistant for Robert Mann, first violinist of the Juilliard String
Quartet.
As a teacher, Mr. Fitzpatrick has taught violin, viola, and
chamber music at universities and conservatories all over the world including
Soka University of America, Saddleback
College, the Sewanee Summer Music Center, L'Academie Internationale De Sées, L'Ecole Ressources Creatives Muiscales, The
Violin Camp, Le Conservatoire Maurice Ravel, Le Conservatoire du Centre Paris, Le
Conservatoire Americain de Fontainebleau, the University of California, Irvine, and the Juilliard School.
As a performer, he has appeared in concert collaborations with artists such as Patrice
Fontanarosa, Karl Leister, Noel Lee, Guy Deplus, Elliot Fisk, Claude Franck,
Itzhak Perlman, Emanuel Ax, Yair Kless, Ron Leonard, Yoko
Matsuda, and ensembles such as the Juilliard String Quartet and
Blair String Quartet.
He has recorded for the IMA Concerts, Jubal, CRI, Sine Qua Non, and Delos labels.
