William Home, 8th Earl of Home

Wikipedia: William Home, 8th Earl of Home

Sir William Home, 8th Earl of Home (1681 - 28 April 1761) was the eighth holder of the title of Earl of Home. He inherited the title in 1720 on the death of Alexander Home, 7th Earl of Home. He married Elizabeth in 1742 as her second husband, but soon left her. On his death he left the title to Alexander Home, 9th Earl of Home (died 1786).

On 11 August 1750 he became colonel of the 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment of Foot [1] and on 29 April 1752 he became a lieutenant general of the King's Own Scottish Borderers [2] He was later promoted to major general becoming (from 1758 until his death) governor of Gibraltar.
