Biography

American screenwriter William R. Lipman evinced his gift for racy, colorful dialogue in his very first assignment, 1933's Broadway Bad. Lipman went on to assignments at Fox, Paramount, and at MGM from 1942 until his retirement. During the mid-1940s, he was a principal writer for MGM's low-budget but high-grossing Wallace Beery vehicles. William R. Lipman's final credit was the 1949 Bob Hope vehicle Sorrowful Jones, a rewrite of Lipman's 1934 script for Little Miss Marker. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
