William T. Joynes

William T. Joynes was born in Accomack County, Virginia in 1817. After finishing his education, he settled in Petersburg in 1839 to practice law. He was appointed United States District Attorney and later, in 1863, was elected judge of the First Judicial District in the Confederate establishment, where he remained until the end of the war. In the fall of l865, he was elected to the Virginia General Assembly and, during the following session in 1866, was elected to the Court of Appeals. Because of ill health, Judge Joynes resigned from the court in 1873 and died the following year.
