Wilshire/Western is the Westernmost stop on the Metro Purple Line, located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue.[1] It has a center platform. Prior plans called for this subway to extend to Fairfax Ave. and then north into the Valley but due to political bickering, the line currently terminates here and the Red Line travels to the Valley via Vermont Ave. Some planners and politicians hope for a westward extension of this line to Santa Monica. The next most likely extension of this line should funding and political agreements come to fruition would be to the Fairfax District[2]

The two artwork installations at Wilshire/Western are called "People Coming", and the other "People Going". They are large murals at each end of the station. The artist responsible is Richard Wyatt, a Compton native.

Currently, a real-estate development project is under construction above this station. It is scheduled to be completed in 2009.
