Wingerworth is a relatively large village situated in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England.It is one of the largest and most populous villages in its district, North East Derbyshire. Wingerworth is only 2 miles south west of the major town Chesterfield, 12 miles south of Sheffield and 120 miles north of the United Kingdoms capital, London. The settlements of Tupton, Claycross, Grassmoor and Ashover are also nearby. Wingerworth or 'Wingy' for short is a semi-rural village with a large town to the north but English countryside to the south with Buxton and Ripley as popular places to visit and Chatsworth house as a very popular tourist destination.
Education
Wingerworth have two primary schools with great OFSTED reports and brilliant exam results, both schools are mixed sex schools and have no denominational religion.Both Deer Park primary school and Hunloke Park primary school have around 200 to 300 pupils from the area, children that don't live in wingerworth might still choose to come to these two schools because of their renound success. Both schools have friendly rivalry in sports like football, cricket, tag rugby and netball. Wingerworth also has two pre-schools and nurseries in New Road Nursery and Hunloke Park school for children aged 2-4 years. Tupton hall secondary school in Tupton is were most of Wingerworth's children go too after Primary school. This school again received good OFSTED reports and is only around 2 miles away.
Facilitys
There are several small shops in wingerworth like the SPAR and NICA(General Stores), a traditional English fish and chip takeaway, a chinese food takeaway, 2 hairdressers,and a fruit and vegetables shop. Wingerworth also has a doctors surgery and a chemist.A large park is in the centre of the village and large woodland and green areas are scatted around the village.
Sports
Football is the main sport played in Wingerworth and has lots of football teams that play in district legues. The WJSA is a junior football association that plays in the rowsley league and has many different aged teams for both boys and girls. Wingerworth has many football pitches, a cricket field, tennis courts and a bowling green in the main park.
