Biography

Winter was a New York-based doom/death outfit formed in the late '80s by vocalist/bassist John Alman, guitarist Stephen Flam, and drummer Joe Goncalves, with occasional keyboards contributed by Tony Pinnisi. So inaccessible was the band's slothfully crusty sound that their 1992 debut album, Into Darkness, took two years to find a label (Nuclear Blast) willing to release it, and its equally depressing follow-up EP, 1995's Eternal Frost, would in time prove to be the band's last. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide
