Review

Reflecting his Florida roots and an audible enthusiasm for the harder edge of U.K. breaks, DJ Huda Hudia's Worldwide Sessions 001: Alaska Bound is a squelchy thing, plasticized like Miami bass, but restless and complicated with a dented groove and an unapologetically luminous 1995 cultural vibe. Hudia's experiments with light proto-rave synths and Fatboy Slim theatrical funk, such as in the clash between DJ 4 Play and himself on "Gettin' Original," is charming, while his tendency to over-climax the rest of the mix is not. Simplistic, graceless, and a bit of fun, it would take somewhat of a broader record collection to launch Hudia to a larger audience. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide
