Game Description

For World Wrestling Entertainment-enthusiast GameCubers, the Day of Reckoning has come. Developed by Yuke's, a company known for its big-time wrestling games, WWE: Day of Reckoning features a more intense, personalized role-playing style design than its predecessors on the Nintendo console. Though all the big heroes and villains of the WWE are here, single players create their own wrestler character, and work him or her up the amateur ranks before earning a chance to face off against the prime time heroes of the sport. Additional elements borrowed from WWE games built for other platforms include livelier ambiance away from the ring, a more cinematic presentation, and the chance to conduct fan-favorite "bra and panties" matches between the league's women wrestlers. ~ T.J. WWE Day of Reckoning is a video game for the Nintendo GameCube console. It was released in 2004 and depicts World Wrestling Entertainment action. Many of the wrestlers who were on the active WWE roster at the time of release are included as playable characters and can be used to compete in matches. It also has the option to create wrestlers.

The story mode in DoR involves the player using a created wrestler and taking their creation through the rookie ranks and into main-event stardom. The player has a choice to be on RAW or SmackDown! When on a show the player is on a stable. The storylines are similar on both shows and matches. Fans are split over DoR, some believe that THQ could have gone further while others are pleased to see that THQ has learned from past mistakes. The successor to DoR, Day of Reckoning 2, was announced in March 2005, and was released on August 29, 2005.

Storyline

A created superstar starts off as a new wrestler signed to a WWE developmental contract trying to work his way up to the main roster. After developmental comes a stint in WWE Sunday Night Heat before the wrestler finially joins the main roster. You get to choose which brand your superstar enters (RAW or SmackDown!), which also chooses the stable they will enter for the story (Triple H's Evolution for Raw, the Undertaker's New Ministry for Smackdown). While the created superstar works his way up the roster, the leader eventually becomes the show's world champion, then starts kicking people off the team as they fail him or (as in the case of the created superstar) become a threat to his championship. The final battle is an ironman match at WrestleMania XX for the championship.

The story is conitinued in the sequel, WWE Day of Reckoning 2, though under the assumption that the superstar chose Raw (which was essentially necessary because both brands end up being involved).

Trivia

  • If a player (human or computer controlled) attacks the referee enough times, by accident or on purpose, the ref will defend himself and fights back at the opposing aggressor. The Ref also seems to have Stone Cold Steve Austin's Move Template. This is the second WWE game with this 'feature' with the first being WWE Wrestlemania XIX. In the

Bra and Panties match, the referee may try to "strip" the attacking player as well.
