Dental Dictionary:

xanthosis

n

1. a yellowish discoloration sometimes seen in degenerating tissues of malignant diseases. n 2. also called carotenosis, a reversible yellow discoloration of the skin most commonly caused by the ingestion of large amounts of yellow vegetables containing carotene pigment, usually in the form of carrot juice. Xanthosis may be differentiated clinically from jaundice because the sclerae are colored yellow in jaundice but are not discolored in xanthosis.
