xMax developed by xG Technology, Inc. is a mobile VoIP and data system operating in the license-free ISM 900MHz band (902-928MHz). xMax is an end-to-end Internet Protocol (IP) system infrastructure that includes a line of base stations, mobile switching centers (MSC), handsets, and modems.
The company announced in July 2006 that with regional partners they are building a US-wide mobile phone service using xMax handsets with VoIP starting in the second quarter of 2007 (xG Technology announces mobile VoIP program).
On Sept. 22, 2009, VoIP industry expert Rich Tehrani test drove the xMax mobile VoIP pilot network operated by the company in Fort Lauderdale, FL. His recent article, published on TMCnet on (referenced below) concluded: “xMax worked well and is real. When you realize that this company may have found a way to take a frequency riddled with wireless garbage and turn it into a fully functioning wireless voice and data network you start to see how much of a game changer this could be for the wireless industry.”
