Formed in 1990 by middle-school students from the Mexican town of Nueva Rosita, Coahuila to participate in a local festival, Yahari (named after the Japanese word that means the unexpected) signed with a local label to release their debut album called Lo Inesperado in 1992. Mostly playing cumbia, the Colombian northen coast folk-dance music, Yahari recorded Mensaje en la Luna in 1993 and Me Late el Corazon, featuring the hit single "El Negro Bombón," in 1994. The tropical ensemble brought their catchy up-tempo style to the U.S. in 2001 to promote their successful full-length record La Vaca. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
