Food & agriculture

In the Rimac Valley of Peru, near a temple and settlement now known as La Florida, villagers construct a canal that is between 4 km (2.5 mi) and 10 km (4 mi) long. It quadruples the amount of arable land in the region. See also 2400 bce Food & agriculture.

Mathematics

The Moscow papyrus, dating from the Twelfth Dynasty, shows that the Egyptians possess an extensive knowledge of geometry, the most sophisticated being a formula for the volume of a truncated pyramid.
