Construction
Architect and engineer Eupalinus of Megara constructs a 1.7 m high by 1.7 m wide (5.5 ft by 5.5 feet) tunnel 1006 m (3300 ft) long under 275-m-high (900-ft-high) Mount Castro on the island of Samos (Greece) to supply water. The tunnel is built from both ends and the two parts miss by about 6 m (20 ft) horizontally and 1 m (3 ft) vertically (known from archaeological measurements made in the 1870s and 1880s).
