Background

In October 2003 fights broke out before and after a match with London rivals West Ham United. Fighting broke out at The Cockerel pub, Tottenham High Road which received extensive damage, with fighting breaking out throughout the day.[1]

Fights have also broke out with rival firm "Chelsea Headhunters" whom are which associated with Chelsea Football Club. There was a huge fight on Sunday 11th March 2007 after the two teams thrilling FA Cup quarter final game which eneded 3-3. The mass brawl ended in 30 men being stabbed and lead to 34 arrests. Police believe that the fight – which began outside the White Horse pub, known locally as the 'Sloaney Pony', a traditional match-day drinking spot for Chelsea fans – was either a pre-arranged clash between rival gangs, or an 'ambush' by Spurs-following hooligans intending to catch Chelsea fans 'in their own backyard'. The Hooligans from both firms where known to have weapons such as wielding knives, wooden clubs embedded with nails, baseball bats and hockey sticks. The Parsons Green area of London suddenly turned into a battleground, leaving bystanders fleeing in terror.

Yid Army is also a general name given to Tottenham fans. For various reasons (fan base, directors, Alf Garnett, racism) some fans of other clubs started taunting Tottenham fans by calling them Yids which they thought was an insult[citation needed]. While most Tottenham supporters are not Jewish many choose to identify themselves as Yids and the term "Yid Army" derives from the Tottenham fans choosing to embrace their new nickname rather than view it as an insult.[2]
