Wikipedia: Yotta-
Top

yotta (symbol Y) is a prefix in the International System of Units (SI) denoting a factor of 1024 or 1000000000000000000000000.

Added to the SI in 1991, it is derived from the Greek ὀκτώ (októ)[citation needed], meaning eight, because it is equal to 10008.

Before the adoption of the yotta prefix, the multiple was also known as otta.

Examples:

  • the mass of the Earth is 5973.6 Yg[1][2] (although as large mass units are based on the tonne, this would be more likely expressed as 5.97 Zt).
  • the total power output of the Sun is approximately 383 YW.
  • the known universe is estimated to be 880 Ym in diameter.
  • the average power released by Tsar Bomba was 5.4 YW[citation needed]
