The romantic lyrics in the opening track, "How When or Where," set the general tone for You Make Us Go, Holiday Flyer's first album for Darla: "From the moment that I saw you, I knew you were the one for me." Every song here is either about first love, meeting that special someone at the movies, or having issues in a relationship and breaking up. There may even be a concept album somewhere here. On its third full-length, the sunshiny California indie pop group is joined by bassist Michael Yoas and Verna Brock of the California Oranges on piano, cello, flute, and organ. The spotlight belongs to the unadulterated lyrics and harmonies of John and Katie Conley, who trade off tender vocals. The restrained percussion (which could be played by brushes instead of sticks) allows great gentleness for the band's grade-school subjects.
