You've Got Mail

The audio announcement heard millions of times per day by AOL users. The voice was recorded by Elwood "El" Edwards in 1989 at the suggestion of his wife Karen, who worked in customer service for Quantum Computer Services (before Quantum became AOL). Elwood recorded "Welcome!," "File's Done," "Goodbye" and "You've Got Mail," the latter made famous by the 1998 Warner Bros. movie of that name with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. An announcer with a long career in broadcasting and radio, when Edwards meets people for the first time who are unaware of his profession, many swear they have met him before, but cannot place where.

Trivia

The song "Never Smile At A Crocodile" is featured in the movie (in the scene where Joe first meets Kathleen in her bookstore) but not on the soundtrack album. Also, the movie features a Harry Nilsson version of "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City"; a small part of the Sinéad O'Connor version featured on the soundtrack album is played during the closing credits.
