Career
Early life and college
Movsisyan came to the United States seeking asylum in "late 2001 or 2002." Movsisyan does not consider himself Azerbaijani, saying "I am Armenian. I was born in Azerbaijan, Baku, but I am Armenian."[1] Upon coming to the US, the family settled in the Los Angeles area, with its large Armenian community. Movsisyan attended and played soccer at Pasadena High School, and played a year of college soccer at Pasadena City College before being discovered by MLS scouts prior to the 2006 MLS SuperDraft.
Professional
Movsisyan was signed to a Generation Adidas contract and became the surprise of draft day, with the Kansas City Wizards selecting him with the fourth overall pick, the highest in MLS history for a player who did not go to a Division I college program or was not a U.S. youth international. On the 2007 trading deadline, Movsisyan was traded to Real Salt Lake.
Movsisyan was also the player who scored Real Salt Lake's first ever MLS Cup Playoffs goal when he scored the winner (and only goal) on November 1, 2008 on Rio Tinto Stadium, when the Utah side beat Chivas USA.
Movsisyan signed a pre-contract with Danish club Randers on July 6, 2009, with an agreement to join the club following the conclusion of the 2009 MLS season. After helping Real Salt Lake win their first ever MLS Cup championship, Movsisyan left the club, and will join Randers on January 1, 2010.[2]
