Z Corporation strives to be the last word in rapid prototyping. The company makes high-speed 3-D printers -- machines that use computer-aided design (CAD) data to create physical prototypes of engineers' designs. The company's various models combine starch- or plaster-based powders with binding agents to produce high-precision models; many designs can be turned out for a few dollars in less than an hour. Basic materials can also be blended with resins, waxes, epoxy, or ceramic to produce objects with different degrees of flexibility, strength, or temperature resistance. Founded in 1994, Z Corporation customers include adidas-Salomon and Northrop Grumman. Z Corporation is a subsidiary of Contex Holding A/S.
