French Literature Companion:

Zamenga Batukezanga

Zamenga Batukezanga (1933-2000). One of Zaïre's most popular and widely read authors, Zamenga has been little read outside the country. A prolific prose writer, he has published almost a title a year since 1971. Uncomplicated in form, Zamenga's short novels (usually approximately 100 pages), explore contemporary social difficulties, in particular within the context of the family. Conflict between the generations and the breakdown in traditional marriage are recurrent subjects.
