Zaventem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzaˑvəntɛm]) is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. The municipality comprises the towns of Nossegem, Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, Sterrebeek and Zaventem proper. On January 1, 2006 Zaventem had a total population of 28,651. The total area is 27.62 km² which gives a population density of 1,037 inhabitants per km².

Brussels Airport is located in this municipality.
The official language is Dutch (as everywhere in Flanders). Small local minorities consist of nationals from many European Union-countries, USA and Canada, and from French-speakers. The French-speaking minority is represented by 6 members on the 29-seat local council.
An old name of the municipality is Saventhem.
Railway stations in the municipality include Zaventem, Brussels Airport and Nossegem.

Government and infrastructure
The Zaventem Fire Department (Brandweer Zaventem in Dutch) provides fire protection services.[1]
Economy
Brussels Airlines has its corporate headquarters in the b.house on the grounds of Brussels Airport in Zaventem.[2] Brussels Airlines formed in 2006 as a result of a merger between SN Brussels and Virgin Express.[3] Prior to the merger, Virgin Express had its head office on the grounds of the airport in Zaventem.[4] SN Brussels, which formed in 2002, had its head office in Airport Building 117.[5] Prior to its disestablishment, Sabena had its head office in the Sabena House in Zaventem.[6]
Education
Schools in Zaventem include Gemeentelijke Basisschool nr 1, Gemeentelijke Basisschool nr 2, and Gemeentelijke Academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans.[7] Brussels American School (the United States Department of Defense school) is in Zaventem.
Zaventem has a library.[8]
Parks and recreation
Seven parks are located in Zaventem.[9]
