Zikhronot

(lit. "remembrances"). Name given to the second of the three middle blessings of the Amidah prayer in the Additional Service of Rosh Ha-Shanah. This section evokes "remembrances," where God is ultimately asked to remember His Covenant with the Jewish people. After an introductory section indicating how God remembers everything, ten verses of the Bible are recited which mention God as remembering, three verses each being taken from the Pentateuch, the Prophets and the Hagiographa, with the tenth again from the Pentateuch. Among these "remembrances" are the Flood, the Jews' slavery in Egypt, and God's promise to remember His covenant with His people. Ten blasts on the Shofar (ram's horn) mark the completion of the section.
