Zoltán Imre

Imre, Zoltán (b Jánoshalma, 1943, d Budapest, 30 June 1997). Hungarian dancer, choreographer, and director. He studied at the Hungarian State Ballet Institute and danced with Szeged National Theatre (1961-8), choreographing his first work for the company, Composition (mus. Bach), in 1966. He was then soloist with Tanzforum Köln (1971-4) after which he moved to Ballet Rambert where he was soloist, choreographer, and company assistant (1974-8). He choreographed two works for the company, including The Accident (mus. Imre and Crosby, 1977). In 1986 he returned as choreographer and artistic consultant to the newly reformed Szeged Ballet company creating Stabat Mater (mus. Pergolesi, 1988) and Dream About Kafka (1992), among other works. He was also artistic director of the company from 1990 to 1993.
