Review

Patrick St. Eloi, vocalist for Kassav, has produced what many consider to be the best zouk album of 1994. His voice is sensual, almost ethereal with a silky vibrato. His arrangements are remarkable in their apparent simplicity; however, the intricate underlying shadings are there to be appreciated by the attentive listener. The production and mixing are both top of the line. He also writes all of his music and lyrics. He is a true poet who is blessed with a honey-laced voice. The tracks on this album are a combination of up-tempo zouk and zouk love. There are very few zouk artists who can create and perform mid-tempo zouk love the way St. Eloi can. His style is drenched in Antillean swing and he can take dancers and listeners to good places. The track that exemplifies this best is "Ki Jan Ke Fe," which made this album a very big seller in the French Antilles. An album that one should seek out. Highly recommended. ~ Mark Romano, All Music Guide
