Zur Geschichte und Literatur. Aus den Schätzen der Herzoglichen Bibliothek zu Wolfenbüttel, title of a series of learned essays published by Lessing on the basis of hitherto unpublished papers in the Ducal Library of Brunswick. Six sets of contributions appeared, Nos. 1 and 2 in 1773, No. 3 in 1774, No. 4 in 1777, and Nos. 5 and 6 in 1781. They include such diverse matters as the identification of a medieval fabulist as Ulrich Boner, Marco Polo, the buildings, windows, and library of Hirschau Abbey (Hirsau in Württemberg), Andreas Wissowatius's views on the Trinity, the antiquity of oil-painting, and Adam Neuser.
