Wesleyan is the adjective form of Wesley, referring either to John Wesley, the founder of Methodism (a group of denominations within Protestant Christianity) or to one or another of the branches within Methodism. It also refers to the many holiness denominations which adhere to the teachings of John Wesley. It is also the formal name of some such denominations; for example, a group that split from the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1843 took the name the Wesleyan Church, and has grown into an international denomination; there are other denominations with similar titles.

When used as a noun, a Wesleyan is any person who adopts the principles of Wesleyan theology or Wesleyanism. In a closely related usage, Wesleyan may refer to the theological emphasis on sanctification, characteristic of the holiness movement of which Wesley was part.
