Sounds like the linkage is loose

Assuming that it is anautomatic And it's just the shifter that you want, at the bottom of the shifter by the steering column there is a pin. Take a punch and drive the pin out.

They don't use linkage, they use a cable. The cable goes between the shift lever mechanism to the transmission.

User Avatar

on an a manual transmission, just grip the shift lever.

cable from shifter to transmission is broken.

It is inside the shifter assembly. It is inside the shifter assembly.

The shift level is locked by the shift solenoid. When you step on the brake, the brake switch sends power to the shift solenoid and it moves a lever to unlock the shifter. If either the switch or solenoid is bad, you can't shift out of park.

User Avatar

moving the shift lever from park to drive or any other position with the engine off will not hurt anything in the transmission. in an older automatic trans by moving the shifter from park to drive the shifter is mechanically atatched to a lever which is attached to a manual valve inside the transmission. since the engine is off there is no pressure in the transmission so nothing happens. on a newer auto trans the shifter is attached to a lever which moves electrical contacts to do the same thing as the old mechanical trans lever.

you remove shifter knob, key on, slighty pull back on lever and lightly rap top of shift lever with soft faced mallet, this will disengage park but you nstill have a problem with shifter or possible brake light switch

There are no warning lights on the gear shift lever.

User Avatar

lift up the rubber dust boot. unscrew the round metal sleeve at the base of the shift lever, then pull up on shifter.

User Avatar

The shift lock on the solenoid is located under the shift lever cover. When the brake is depressed it then unlocks the shifter of the vehicle. If this does not unlock the solenoid then it will need to be replaced.

there is a little lever you have to switch to the left. It is inside the compartment where the on the bottom where the gear shifter knob comes out.

User Avatar

Take apart your shifter console and all the rubber boots under, you will see them.

User Avatar

It is located on top of the steering column. Right above the shifter. There is also a lever underneath th steering column cover. Remove the cover and push the lever down, it releases the shifter.

User Avatar

not sure what you mean as second tier, but shift pattern is 1 n 234 1 st gear being all the way down, then lift shifter with toe through the gears. **There is a lever behind the main shifter. You can switch between low/high with this lever.

User Avatar

you need to get a special tool if you just want to pull the shift lever by itself.

Grab lever, pul into 4wd position.

If the shift knob on a 1995 Chevy Beretta broke off from the metal bar, the metal bar is called the shift lever. The shift lever might be available at a reduced price from an automobile salvage yard.

User Avatar

Stuck in park huh? Well the only real way is to change the faulty shift module, which is the shifter itself. There is a way to manually release the shift lever but it requires drilling slightly. These do not have a shift lock release, because the S class does not have a steering lock, so they lock the shifter instead.

Nothing, as the stick shift wasn't available in the Challenger in 2008.
