I am in Lafayette Parish and the legal age is 18 years old. It was changed five years ago. There are two ways to get a diploma outside of going to high school. You must be enrolled and attending school unless you are at least 18 years old. Charter School allows you to earn a high school diploma. (This is NOT Laps or Caps.) The Adult Education Program allows you to earn a GED diploma. When asked what if the child doesn't go to school, I was told that the school board proceeds with court and jail for the parent.
