Are the plugs good? Are you gettin any fuel from your fuel pump? the main relay has been known to go in older hondas and could be the problem. Also make sure the ignition timing is set correctly. Hope i could help Good luck with the Rex! P.S--- Make sure when that you have the firing order set properly as well form when you changed the distributor cap. It is 1,3,4,2 clockwise.
I had same problem. Take apart the distributor and there is a coil or component that looks like one of those portable batteries for hand tools. Its beneath the rotor assemble which all unscrews. Its towatd the bottom of distributor. I replaced coil package? if that was the correct name for $20.00 used and it started right up.
Usually the O-ring gasket for the Distributor leaks on these engines..look at the base of the distributor.. it usually trickles from there. the fix is pretty easy. it is one o-ring gasket that can be replaced by pulling the distributor. i have had this problem and thought it may be electical, so i replaced the battery and the distributor cap and for a few weeks the car was fine then all of a sudden it has started it again, i have tried raising the idol and this hasn't helped either, all i can think of now is fuel pump....see where i go from here....
check your time and fuel injecters
Check the coil and the ignitor inside of the distributor. I just went through the same problem this past weekend. I had no spark after doing a full tune up just after i had it idleing to flush the motor. Ended up the coil had shorted out and I had to go get a replacement at Checkers. My civic started right up after I replaced it.
I had a similar problem with my Mazda 626. The car will completely stall while driving and can not be started again except after few minutes. It turned out to be my distributor electronic ignition component gets overheated and stop functioning. When it cools off it starts again. Replacing the distributor solve the problem.
If the problem started after you replaced a fuse, you need to check that the fuse is good and installed properly.
I had a problem with my 97 deville air ride and the fuse in the trunk labeled RSS was missing so I replaced it and the shocks started working.
I have a 1993 Jeep GC Larado also. Recently I didn't have spark either. I replaced my coil: didn't fix the problem. Then I started to think that it might be as simple as a fuse. There is a fuse panel under the hood where all the ABS controls are, inside is a 20amp fuse that controls the ignition. Mine was blown, once I replaced it, the vehicle started perfectly.
The first distributor less cars started appearing in the mid 1980s the last distributor being produced in about 1990
check your distributor cap, if it has any kind of crack in it moisture can enter and cause this problem. also bad plug wires can contribute.
I had a 1986 cj that had the same problem. Couldn't find the problem until the dimmer switch on the floorboard went out. Replaced the switch and the gauge lights started to work.
directly under the distributor
I had the same problem and found it was the "Map sensor" I replaced it and the car runs fine now
Sounds like a pulley may be freezing up. Have a mechanic check the pulleys.
It began in 1948 and was replaced in 1955 by WTO.
Replace the Distributor, i did this on my 87, and my speedo started working again.
My mechanic (who I trust) replaced my O2 sensor and exhaust manifold and the problem went away.
Hi, Could be the fuel pump if it just started or the fuse or relay. Steve H.
There has always been that problem but it mainly started when people started to eat lots of processed food
I have a 1993 silverado that was doing the same thing, and the problem turned out to be a bad regulator inside my brand new alternator. Ireplaced it and went ahead and replaced the battery, I haven't had the problem since! Hope this helps.
