1989 Chevy Caprice TBI V8. Service engine soon light comes on only sometimes when on the highway all gauges are reading normal light goes off after you shut the car off What is the problem here?

I have an '89 L03 engine Caprice too. This is most likely caused by the EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Return). Not sure how to fix it as mine still works but it might be a sensor problem.
