My trusted transmission shop says don't touch the transmission fluid or filter until you have a problem! Otherwise if you start messing with it you will cause a problem. His advice has worked for me for 100k miles or more on all my cars!

I had this problem myself... You have to actually drop the transmission and take it apart to change the filter. Very bad design if you ask me. Im sure it had something to do with saving them money one way or another.
Remove the battery cables. Remove the battery tiedown. Remove the battery from the Aerostar. Reinstall in reverse order.
This is a transmission shift control fault code. Check the transmission fluid level and add as necessary to reach the full mark. Do not overfill! Having the transmission fluid and filter change my solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem seek professional help from a transmission specialist.
