No, A 2.2L OHV will NOT replace a 2.4L DOHC engine.
Kind of vague...!! What's it doing? Is it turning over? Was the check engine light on before you shut it off? Need more info.

I have a 97 cavalier with a 95 engine and i had to replace the whole ignition module and the coil packs are 1/4 and 2/3 that's how they are numbered on the coil packs so 2 coil packs but make sure you know which one isn't firing to replace them and u will have to replace you spark plugs after that.
its far easier to replace engine and gearbox as a one unit. that way you dont have any stuggeling to do. i all comes out from underneath the vehicle as one .

You can swap the engine from your 1997 Cavalier 2.2 liter engine to your 2000 Chevy Cavalier. The wiring harness and motor mounts should be in exactly the same.
ignition control module on a 95 cavalier is locate on rear of engine facing fire wall. Attached by 2 bolts and has a snap connector. Best to have very small hands or drop engine to replace
Your 2.2 Liter Chevy engine does not have a cam belt, it has a chain. No regular maintence is required.
i would replace fan relay, before replacing thermostat. the relay acts as a thermostat for the fan, turning fan on and off when needed
No...No....No... The 2.2L OHV engine and the 2.4L DOHC (Quad-4) engine are two different animals.
