My 94 LeSabre has been doing this for about 2 years. Lots of research. Just changed the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 5/10/08 and no problems.

One of the main causes for a 1998 Buick LeSabre to die while driving is a problem with the computer. The computer might tell the fuel pump to shut off and stop sending fuel to the motor.

Its the turning force from the crankshaft, which ends up as a linear force at the driving wheels.

I have a 2005 Nissan altima and it use to do that until I replaced the crankshaft and camshaft sensors, have not had that problem since. The crankshaft sensor is real easy to replace. The camshaft is a little more difficult but can be done, I would recommend you trying it yourself. The sensors I got from autozone and paid about $35 a piece and safe a lot in labor charges.

My 90 lesabre did the same thing. When it cut off after driving I sprayed water on the crank sensor and it started right back up. A buick mechanic told me to do this and this is how I found out the crank sensor was bad!

User Avatar

It senses whether your crankshaft has packed up, and if so, warns you of such. Driving without a crankshaft is dangerous! It can lead to not going anywhere fast, and is often a sign of owning a Chrysler product. The Crankshaft Sensor communicates to the computer what position the motor is in so it can fire the appropriate spark plugs and fuel injectors in a continuous cycle, or firing order.

First check and see if there are any codes in your computer that could be a bad sensor. My check engine light came on then went off for a long time but after the car had to be towed in we found a bad fuel sensor and when it was replaced the car has run fine since.

I had the same problem with my 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88. Replaced fuel pump and Ignition control module. So far, there is no cut off. You probably have no good Igition module.same thing happened to my 94 LeSabre. It happened from time to time with no "Service Engine Soon" indication. Eventually I got the indication, it was the EGR valve.Does it start right back up when ever it cuts off? check the battery terminals first, jiggle them while the engine is running if that didn't afect the engine, it sounds like the throttle position sensor is faulty. change it.Best ChoiceYou want to change: Crankshaft Sensor, Starter Pack, And the Fuel Pump.
