It could be a variety of things, the likely culprit would be a blown front pump seal in your transmission. Put some fluid in the transmission and let the car idle. Then look underneath it and see if you can tell where the leak is coming from. If it seems to be coming from between the engine and transmission then it's likely the pump seal. If you have it repaired you should replace the torque converter as well since it could have a groove worn on the hub. Unfortunately the transmission will have to be completely removed in order to make this repair. Depending on what area of the country you live in you could be looking at a $4-600 repair bill.
If a transmission is leaking fluid, it is likely that a seal or gasket has failed. Replace the gaskets and seals and the leaking should stop.

It depends on where it is leaking. If it is the lines it is cheap. Anything else it is not.
If youre changing over a Taurus and its not an SHO then you will have to swap out the entire engine. SHOs were the only ones offered with stick and the manual transmission will not bolt up to a regular Taurus's engine.

On Taurus 2003 and on Ford windstar it's located on top of the transmission, close to the shifting lever. It's covered with a small rubber cap that has inside ribs to allow air flow.
