The thermostat housing is at the bottom radiator hose. It is in the inlet, just behind the ac compressor.
The 1998 Lincoln Continental has a thermostat which measures the internal temperature of the engine. This is displayed on the dashboard.
What size engine do you have?
On a 1997 Lincoln Continental : From a drawing I was looking at , the engine cooling thermostat is located in the AREA BELOW the engine oil filler cap when you are looking from the front of the vehicle into the engine compartment
On a 1999 Lincoln Continental , 4.6 : I was looking at one of the Ford websites and it shows that the engine cooling thermostat is between the engine and the FRONT of the VEHICLE , in the area somewhere below the engine oil filler cap

The thermostat is mounted in the cooling outlet housing on a 1967 Lincoln Continental 7.6 liter 8-cylinder model. Just follow the upper radiator hose to where it meets the engine.

Check for a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
Your thermostat is on line with your top radiator hose. The big hose coming off the top of your radiator leads to the engine. That is where it's at. Should be 2 bolts and a hose clamp to get the hose out of your way if needed.
