Check fluid level
Could be a bad pump inside the transmission
you do not have a neutral safety switch it is a valve in the gear box adjust the linkage put in first gear now to the engine bay look at the throttle now adjust the linkage see if gearstick is in the right place the engine must only start in park or neutral if not you must adjust the linkage.
could be either transmission shift linkage not engaging reverse ( stops at neutral ) worn joint connectors sometimes cause this. or reverse clutches or gears bad inside transmission.
It only allows starting the engine in park or neutral. It also is the reverse light switch.
worn trans mounts and the linkage shifts one good way to test this theory is to hold the brake firmly with the engine running and trans in reverse press the acellerator pedal as to brake torque the drive train watch the sifter make your determination
it prevents you from starting the engine while the transmission is in either DRIVE or REVERSE
The safety neutral switch on a 1989 Nissan Pickup with an automatic transmission and a D-24 engine is located on the transaxle. The neutral switch will be found where the linkage attaches to the transaxle unit.
it is attached to the transmission and allows the engine to be started when the gear lever is in 'park' or 'neutral', but prevents the engine from being started in 'reverse' or 'drive'. on some cars the driver must also put their foot on the brake pedal before the engine can be started.
When we have this problem, we turn the ignition off and shift into neutral, restart the engine and it can then be shifted into drive or reverse.
No. Propeller aircraft however can adjust their props to a neutral position, allowing for no forward or reverse thrust. Jet engine blades are fixed.
Most likely not the linkage. Usually the shifter sensor on the brake pedal or a fuse. Turn the key to the first point, no ign. lites, then put the shifter in neutral and start the engine. You may drive to your local garage to have it checked.
The gearbox allows the following functions:a. to increase the engine torqueb. to enable a free-wheel or neutral positionc. to be able to reverse.
on the right side of engine below oil filter there is a black cover with 2 8mm bolts . remove these bolts and cover and you,ll find the neutral and reverse switches .
