To find the crankshaft sensor remove the fan assy from the radiator and the exhaust manafold heat shield then just below to the right end of the manafold you will find the wire to the sensor. To remove it you will need a #30 Torx tool. The camshaft seneor is located almost straight above at the end of the cam.
the crank sensor is located just behind the crank shaft pully of the engine.

If a 1998 mountaineer crank will not start, check for faulty spark. This can be done by removing a spark plug wire or coil pack from one of the spark plugs. Then insert an extra spark plug into the wire or coil.

Usually replace the crank sensor. Check the resistance of it first. Should be 9-1500 KOhms. If it's bad it will be MOhmn or open
how about the ing. module under the coil pack? i would check that first. also check the two wire connector at the drivers side of the coil pack they rub against the exhaust and burn causing a no spark.
Its on the backside of the engine, on the firewall side
