That sounds about right. If the bearing was already getting tired, any repositioning or change in tension could push it over the edge.

When the bearing fails, the seal will usually fail real soon. While some mechanics tend to make things up as they go, what you're hearing is actually reasonable.

It is possible the tech over tightened the PS belt and caused the pump to fail.or the unit was about to fail. If the shop is a place that you have used and trust I would go with the techs explanation of what happened
