Light is usually comes on, when there is a problem with pressure in brake lines. Inspect the brake fluid level, and check for leaks.

When should you always engage your parking brakes?

When you park your vehicle.

Adjust parking brakes on a 1993 prism?

If the parking brake does not engage fully, the rear (shoe type) brakes need to be adjusted or replaced.

Why do rear brakes brake first?

All four brakes should engage at the same time. You probably need to bleed your front brakes. If road conditions are wet or you haven't driven the car in a while, drum brakes sometimes "grab". Many cars have rear drum brakes and front disc, this could be what you're expieriencing.

What would make the brakes lock up without touching them?

The brakes my lock up without touching them if a foreign object has become lodged between the pad and the rotors. A failure in the hydraulics may also cause the brakes to engage on their own.

What could cause a 'ping' sound when stepping on the brakes of a 1996 Ford Windstar?

Well I seem to have a similar situation.. I would say your 'ping' is a bit of a 'sprong' on my 95 Windstar. Further the brake pedal seems to bind, makes the sound and not engage the brakes.. I can apply more pressure and pass through the bind to engage the brakes or with some pumping of the pedal the binding dissipates and the brakes engage properly.. I was wondering if this is similar to your situation? Unfortunately I do not have the answer; I am on the 'net today looking for information! Should I find any info pf value I will post here.. What is a service line in a tractor trailer?

Why would the rear brakes of a 1996 Chevy Corsica engage very hard with the slightest touch of the brake pedal?

The rear brakes are called a dual servo brake system... it uses one shoe to activate the other in a braking situation. When the rear brakes are over adjusted the slightest touch of the brake pedal will cause them to engage. what is actually happening is your rear brakes are engaging before the fronts even get close. You need to either back off the adjusters yourself if you know how or take it to a garage and have them back them off.

Does the 08 Kia Spectra have anti lock brakes?

Why is the bicycle brake system a good example of a lever system?

Because bicycle brakes use levers. There's one lever at the handlebar, and for all but hydraulic brakes either the brake itself consists of levers or a lever is used to make the brake pads engage.

How do you Change a tractor trailer brake cystem to a streight truck?

Just leave it as is, and don't push in your trailer air when you drive. If you're referring to the Johnson bar, it can be changed to engage the tractor brakes instead of the trailer brakes, but it would probably be more hassle than it's worth. The only applications I can think of where one would actually benefit from having the Johnson bar engaged the power unit brakes are dump trucks (particularly, those dumping asphalt or concrete into pavers) and roll-off container trucks. Otherwise, there really is no use for it, unless you have something like a Mack R or RD model, where you have to pull lightly on the Johnson bar to engage the differential lock (but in which case, the Johnson bar would already be set up to engage the brakes of the power unit).

Why is it that when you turn the steering wheel it presses the brakes?

Does it actually engage the brakes, or just the brake lights? There should be no possible way for the steering wheel to actuate the braking system, but a short in the wiring somewhere in the steering column could be causing both rear signal lights or brake lights to come on.
