As with most automatic transmission randomness, the problem is likely that the Transmission Fluid needs changing. This isn't a hugely complicated or expensive job; you can do it yourself in less than an hour with few problems.
If the problem persists then you have more serious troubles on your hands and you should refer yourself to a professional. More than likely, though, this won't need to happen.

The Nudist on the Late Shift was created in 1999.
If the 1999 Chevrolet Metro will not shift automatically there may be a problem with the transmission solenoid. The solenoid tells when the transmission when to shift, and when it is malfunctioning will cause a vehicle to stay stuck in a certain gear.
The shift knob should turn and loosen to the left. By turning this to the left it will loosen and come off, then put the new on and turning to the right until it's firm.
It will fit, But it won't WORK. The 1999 transmission is electronic and requires a computer and speed sensors to make it shift right. You need one from 1987 down.
