Check for a vacuum leak either under the hood or under the dash Check the operation of the vacuum actuators under the dash

You lost the vacuume supply coming from the engine, defrost is the default mode if a mafunction in the vacuume supply is lost.

have you tried belt conditioner? it generally helps fix squeaks and rumbles.Additional IdeasInspect the belt, cracks or broken pieces will cause noise under the correct conditionsIf I remember correctly the AC/Heat fan motor is on the fire wall in the same area, it can rumble, but the noise will be obvious inside the car.Idler pulleys will rumble if the bearings are bad. Finally the big money: Water pump, AC pulley bearing or the compressor failing, alternator or power steering pump.

May be a vacume hose leak. Mine starts on regular AC. mode then from an Idle like at a red light it will switch over to "re-circulate"mode and start blowing warm air. While still showing in normal AC. mode. After I pull out and step on it it reverts to normal operation, and cools down. II having the same problem in addition my when i press the A/C button I hear a clicking noise from the engine bay. It some sort of a popping noise like if its trying to to come on but it still blows room temp air. Any ideas as to what it can be?

User Avatar

The heater core is plugged. Blow it out with a compressor. If that does not work replace the heater core.

maybe the latch is in the locked position try using your key to unlock it

No. While initial ideas are ideas one first thinks of and can become primary ideas (or, in other words, the main focus), primary ideas are not necessarily the first ideas one thinks of (better known as initial ideas). Initial ideas can become primary ideas. Primary ideas are not necessarily initial ideas.
